You Are In Control – The Future Of The Creative Industries

You Are In Control heads into its third year and explores the latest digital business developments and investment available in music, media and the arts. This innovative international conference takes place in Reykjavík on the 23rd & 24th of September 2009 and has been planned to coincide with both the Reykjavík International Film Festival and Nordisk Panorama.

Keynote speaker is IDEO‘s managing partner and co-chief Paul Bennett. This year IDEO has topped Fast Company‘s list of the world‘s most innovative companies in design. Paul will look into the future with the creative industries with the designer‘s mind but at the same time look at how the digital business models are overlapping in music, film, visual arts, litterature and design.

Other speakers include Habbo‘s Oisin Lunny, Helga Valfells from Iceland’s New Business Venture Fund, A.R. Rahman’s lawyer Simon Long, Hampus Kivimae from Sony/ATV Publishing in Scandinavia, NBC/Universal’s music supervisor Alicen Schneider and Nicola Slade from Record of the Day.

You Are In Control tackles key industry questions like: What are the new business models creative industries are facing and working with in the digital sector? How has the digital environment changed the music industry? How is the digital revolution affecting films, fashion, visual arts, design and litterature? How can today’s creatives work together on designing tomorrow? Who are the new players? You Are In Control brings together the best international creative, music and media minds to discuss new business models, diversity and new ways of working in the creative industries.

In recent years You Are In Control has received some well deserved attention. Ralph Simon, foundre of Zomba Music and widely regarded as one of the founders of the modern mobile entertainment industry, was a part of the 2008 edition, stating that “despite the financial gloom, there was much optimism and excitement about the state of musicianship and interesting new acts fomenting and making early waves in Reykjavik, which continues to show amazing vigour for new music and creativity.” Music Week’s Christopher Barrett is also a fan, writing: “…delegates at the You Are In Control conference in Reykjavík were left in little doubt as to the rich creative resources of Iceland’s music business.”

You Are In Control provides a unique opportunity for creatives to lead the way into the future, network and discuss fresh ideas. Don’t miss the “early bird” offer for € 100. To register go to www.icelandmusic.is/register09.

You Are In Control – Framtíð menningar- og afþreyingarviðskipta

Alþjóðleg ráðstefna, You Are In Control, verður haldin í þriðja sinn í Reykjavík dagana 23. og 24. september næstkomandi. Rýnt verður í þróun og tækifæri í stafrænum viðskiptamódelum ásamt því að skoða samlegðaráhrif mismunandi listforma og áhrif á listsköpun. Sú nýbreytni á sér stað í ár að You Are In Control er haldin á sama tíma og Alþjóðleg kvikmyndahátíð í Reykjavík (RIFF) og Nordisk Panorama. Útflutningsskrifstofa íslenskrar tónlistar, RIFF, Hönnunarmiðstöð Íslands, Kynningarmiðstöð íslenskrar myndlistar og Kvikmyndamiðstöð Íslands standa að ráðstefnunni og er þetta í fyrsta sinn sem þessir aðilar eiga með sér samstarf af þessu tagi. Katrín Júlíusdóttir iðnaðarráðherra opnar ráðstefnuna.

Þegar hefur fjöldi virtra og góðra gesta staðfest þátttöku sína á ráðstefnuna, þar á meðal Paul Bennett frá IDEO, Alicen Catron Schneider frá NBC/Universal Television, Oisin Lunny frá Habbo, Hampus Kivimae frá Sony/ATV Publishing Scandinavia og Elísabet Grétarsdóttir frá CCP.

Miklar breytingar eiga sér nú stað í menningarmiðlun um heim allan. Tala þeirra sem neyta og njóta menningarafurða  ýmiss konar eykst dag frá degi – í réttu hlutfalli við minnkandi sölutölur á geisladiskum og öðrum áþreifanlegum afurðum. Stafræn dreifing, höfundaréttur og fjárfestingar kalla á nýjan hugsunarhátt, nýja viðskiptahætti og nýjar leiðir í útgáfu, dreifingu og markaðssetningu. Um leið eru að mótast ný viðskiptamódel þar sem tölvuleikir koma sífellt meira við sögu í dreifingu á fötum, tónlist og jafnvel kvikmyndum. Á ráðstefnunni verður varpað ljósi á margt það nýjasta á þessum vettvangi og leitast við að svara spurningum varðandi þessi efni. Einnig verður skyggnst inn í framtíðina og reynt að sjá hvað hún ber í skauti sér. Samfara ráðstefnunni verður einnig haldinn tónlistarmyndamarkaður fyrir erlenda kaupendur í samstarfi við RIFF.

You Are In Control hefur hlotið verðskuldaða athygli á síðustu árum en í greininni „Thawing Icelandic Relations“ (eða Tengslin við Ísland komin úr kuldanum) sem birtist í Music Week í nóvember í fyrra er ráðstefnan hlaðin lofi: „Þátttakendur í You Are In Control stóðu eftir í litlum vafa um ráðsnilld íslenska tónlistariðnaðarins.“ Ralph Simon, sem talin er einn af upphafsmönnum þráðlausa afþreyingariðnaðarins er einnig aðdáandi ráðstefnunnar: „Þrátt fyrir drungann yfir efnahagsástandinu var mikið um bjartsýni og spenna um stöðu tónlistar í Reykjavík sem býr áfram yfir miklum sköpunarkrafti og grósku.“

You are in Control fer fram á  Hilton Hótel.
