First speakers announced
Topics covered in YAIC 2011 include: collaborative creativity, cross-platforming, engagement marketing, open source and copyright. Industry professionals will present a variety of perspectives on how to tackle the rapidly changing digital distribution world. Confirmed speakers include:
Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard have worked in collaboration as visual artists since meeting at Goldsmiths College in the early nineties. Their work is exhibited internationally and collected by major institutions including the Tate Gallery and Government Art Collection in the UK. Their projects frequently intersect with music, including collaborations with J. Spaceman (Spiritualized), Plan B and most recently, a major installation in a public square in Toronto soundtracked by Scanner. In 2007 they were invited by Jarvis Cocker to make a new work for his Meltdown Festival, and since being asked to make their first music video by Nick Cave in 2008 they have gone on to direct promo clips for artists including Tindersticks, Fanfarlo and Gil Scott-Heron. For the past 10 years they have each worked with leading independent record labels in the UK shaping their approach to digital and creative marketing.
Iain Forsyth is now established as an independent consultant to the music industry following 10 years as Head of Digital at the Mute label . He joined Mute in 2001, and was with the company throughout their years with EMI and the recent return to independence. Throughout that time he has worked closely with a wide range of artists including Depeche Mode, Goldfrapp, Moby, Erasure, Richard Hawley and a range of more recent signings including Josh T. Pearson and Yeasayer. In 2004 he co-founded Live Here Now, a live concert recording distribution company, now part of Abbey Road Studios. As a consultant, he continues to work with many Mute artists. In 2002 Jane Pollard joined the Beggars Group, the UK’s largest group of independent record labels, as their sole web developer and set up the in-house digital marketing and web department. In 2005 Martin Mills created a new role for her – Head of Strategy – with a wide remit to devise innovative and creative strategies of marketing and promoting the artists represented by their labels, XL Recordings, 4AD, Rough Trade and Matador Records. Working with an expansive range of artists including Radiohead, Pixies, The White Stripes, The National, Adele and Scott Walker, Jane has led numerous campaigns, won 5 Digital Music Awards and contributed to successfully re-shaping the company’s approach to digital strategy.
