Jane Pollard (UK)
In 2002 Jane joined the Beggars Group, the UK’s largest group of independent record labels, as their sole web developer and set up the in-house digital marketing and web department. In 2005 Martin Mills created a new role for her – Head of Strategy – with a wide remit to devise innovative and creative strategies of marketing and promoting the artists represented by their labels, XL Recordings, 4AD, Rough Trade and Matador Records. Working with an expansive range of artists including Radiohead, Pixies, The White Stripes, The National, Adele and Scott Walker, Jane has led numerous campaigns, won 5 Digital Music Awards and contributed to successfully re-shaping the company’s approach to digital strategy.
Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard
For the past 10 years Iain & Jane have each worked in the music industry specialising in digital and creative ideas that span on and offline. However they come a from a visual arts and filmmaking background working together and exhibiting internationally. They will make a special presentation at You Are In Control discussing their approaches to the creation and distribution of “creative content”, and the shared principles that underpin their groundbreaking work.
Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard have worked in collaboration as visual artists since meeting at Goldsmiths College in the early nineties. Their work is exhibited internationally and collected by major institutions including the Tate Gallery and Government Art Collection in the UK. Their projects frequently intersect with music, including collaborations with J. Spaceman (Spiritualized), Plan B and most recently, a major installation in a public square in Toronto soundtracked by Scanner. In 2007 they were invited by Jarvis Cocker to make a new work for his Meltdown Festival, and since being asked to make their first music video by Nick Cave in 2008 they have gone on to direct promo clips for artists including Tindersticks, Fanfarlo and Gil Scott-Heron.
